They also love experimenting with the menu, offering limited-time specialty drinks. One could come here every month and try something completely new. And for the sparkle lovers, try the Bloom Boosters — a refreshing drink with edible glitter. Red Hook already has locations in Ferndale, West Village, and the Detroit Greenway, and now it has a spot in Midtown inside the space formerly occupied by Great Lakes Coffee on Woodward at Alexandrine.

Hyper curated and hyper technical, Highland Park's Kumquat Coffee is a caffeine lover's paradise. They also offer fresh pastries and breakfast burritos, just in case all that caffeine isn't fuel enough. No matter which location you visit, the beans at Boy & the Bear get roasted three times a week, which makes a major difference in the quality of each cup. All four cafés also have Wi-Fi, charging outlets and at least a few couches, and the Redondo Beach flagship has the most space and outdoor seating. We love the Figueroa, made with sweetened condensed milk, espresso, milk and cinnamon, topped with a Maria Cookie. In 2018, Yonnie Hagos and Ajay Relan first opened in the historically Black neighborhood of View Park-Windsor Hills, hoping to help locals connect, caffeinate and continue the climb towards success.
Reyna Duong of Sandwich Hag and Jinny Cho of Detour Doughnuts in Frisco (very much worth the drive) teamed up to start chimlanh Coffee Shop, which runs at Sandwich Hag on weekends. The decor is gorgeous, the coffee is hot, and the opportunity for an Instagram moment is high. This little coffee shop inside the Virgin Hotel in the Design District is a great place to pop into an grab an alcove all to yourself during the day. Try the Yemeni coffee experience in Richardson at this locally owned and operated shop. The beans are sourced from Yemen, and the shop’s build is conducive to community — sharable coffee is the Yemeni way.
